Safe Cycling Isle of Man Campaign

Dear Club Member

On Wednesday 22 July we are launching a Safe Cycling Isle of Man campaign.  The aim of this campaign is to improve road safety for cyclists on the Isle of Man and promote harmonious road sharing.

We, Tanya Sanderson and Sean McLachlan, started this initiative after Kate Burge was killed in Kirk Michael on 4th August 2014. She was hit from behind by a Range Rover whilst cycling home from work.

Our campaign is about lobbying Tynwald to introduce a minimum safe passing distance of 1.5m enshrined in law.

There is ample precedence around the world where this has been implemented and we would encourage you to visit our website for more information www.safecyclingiom.com

The publicity that this campaign will cause will increase the awareness of the vulnerability of cyclists. It will also challenge some of the anti-cyclist attitude. As cyclists we would value your support in our efforts. You can do this by:

  1. Liking our Facebook page ‘Safe Cycling Isle of Man’ - this will become live on Wednesday.
  2. Writing to your MHK to support the change in legislation for a 1.5m overtaking law.
  3. Contacting us via our website if you would like to work in partnership with us.

Thank you in anticipation of your support.

Kind regards
Tanya and Sean
