IronMan

Seasoned Iron Man campaigner Rob Parker competed in the 15th running of the Lake Placid Iron Man at the weekend . According to reports there was cool weather with wind and rain.  Rob finished in 82nd place in age group in a time of  13:37:37. Well done Rob how many is that now?

At the other end of the spectrum Jenna MacGregor will be contesting her first Iron Man this weekend at Iron Man UK, Bolton.

Jenna will be bib number 51 in the 18-24 age group. Long distance Triathlon is not popular with younger women hence only 3 in this age group. It does mean however a guaranteed podium if she can finish. Jenna is well capable of this but by her own admission it will be the cut off times that will be her enemy.

All the very best of good luck Jenna.

Weekend Round up 14th July

While many of the Manx Tri Club regulars were away in Bermuda there were still some left to compete in the domestic scene.

Russell Collister was away doing the Cowman National Middle Distance championships and finished 8th in his age group 42nd overall in a time of 4:56:56.

The water temperature was around 21°C and so wetsuits were optional, although the majority of the field still choose to swim suited up.

The British Triathlon Championships was taking place on our doorstep in Liverpool.

The temperature in the dock was 20°C making wetsuits optional. Needless to say the majority opted for the suit.

Gaynor Evans and Wendy Sandford were our only representatives this year. Gaynor was 33rd in the 45-49 age group in 2:38:52 and Wendy was 23rd  40-44 in 2:31:09.

The event will be shown on Channel 4 on 28th July at 7am.

Bermuda Games

The Triathlon results have been published and can be found here. The best placed Manxman was Andrew Nash in 9th 2:08:44 and the best Woman was Gill Crennell in 10th 2:42:59.

The Isle of Man secured a Bronze in the team event where the best 3 finisher’s times are aggregated. The three to count were Andrew Nash, Roger Raatgever and Juan Kinley. Without having any first hand reports it looks like the heat has been a major factor in the run with times being significantly slower than expected.

Congratulations to our Island neighbours Bobby Oag of Shetland and Kerry MacPhee of the

Western Isles who were the Men’s and Women’s Gold medallists.

Masters Swimming

During the school summer holidays (from Tuesday 23rd July to Tuesday 3rd September inclusive) they will be at the NSC from 7pm to 8.30 rather than 8 to 9.30.

For next week (16th July) time is still an 8pm start.

Toshiba Windsor Triathlon.

Well done to Andrew Nash who competed in the British Triathlon Elite Standard Distance Triathlon Championships at the weekend.

This was the first time anyone from the club has been represented in draft legal racing . The event is a classic on the Triathlon calendar and is now in its 23rd year. The swim is in the Thames and the bike takes in the Windsor Great Park with the run through the streets of Windsor passing the castle and Eaton College.

He was eventually able to work with a group of five on the bike and said that it was a great experience, a lot different from a standard age group race.

The action can be seen on Sky Sports 4 at 9.30pm June 30th, 3am, 1pm and 4pm June 31st, 10am 4th July.

Nash on form.

Andrew Nash competed in the Chester Diva Triathlon at the start of the month. As this was the first opportunity to qualify for the ITU Standard distance  Worlds there was a good quality field. Andrew was 7th in age group and 54th overall out of 720 finishers in a time of 2:09:13.

He continued his good form with a fine 6th place in the Ellan Vannin’s Nick Corkhill Memorial Road race at the weekend.

Andrew will be competing for the first time in draft legal racing this coming weekend at the Windsor Triathlon. This will be the first time any Manx Tri Club member has attempted this so we wish him well.

Microgaming Sprint Triathlon - 12th May

A record field of 94 competitors braved the damp and breezy conditions to take part in the annual Microgaming Sprint Triathlon on Sunday at the Ramsey Swimming Pool. The race comprises 3 disciplines back to back of a 750metre swim in the Pool, a 20k cycle out towards Bride and then left to Andreas and back in to Ramsey, and finally a 5k run around the Mooragh Park. Andrew Nash, the current Island Champion over Standard distance, took victory for the first time in the Mens event in an blistering time of 1:00:40s, with Juan Kinley a very close 2nd and Russell Collister in 3rd. The Ladies race was decided on the final run leg, with Lynsey Elliott taking 1st Place, Joanne Hawkins 2nd and Wendy Sandford 3rd.

Despite a crash on her bike, Rebecca Storrie put in a very gutsy performance to get back on and finish her 1st Triathlon, winning the Girls Youth Category and placed 4th place overall. Joseph Ricciardi was the winner of the Boys Youth Category and placed 16th overall.

In the Team event, the very strong trio of Amy Kinley, Lizzie Holden and Katie Astin were first over the line in an super fast time of 1:03:57, only to find that they had gone wrong on the course, and albeit that they had actually gone further than necessary they relinquished the win to the 'Dynamic Duo' of Nigel Comley and Rosy Craine.

There were some fantastic results posted by the many Newcomers and we hope to see them at future events.

There were a number of pairs of googles left at the Pool - If you're lost yours, please contact Rosemary Kinley with a description and she will get them back to you if they're yours - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The next event is the Microgaming IoM Triathlon Championships on Sunday 1st September in the Mooragh Park.   Results here
