Girls Take Silver at Island Games
The Women's Team of Karen Shimmin, Lynsey Elliott & Hannah Howitt claimed the Silver medal in the Team Triathlon event. Karen finished in 4th place overall in 2:24:31 with Lynsey coming home in 7th in 2:28:19. Hannah, who had been the early leader out of the swim and still lying in 4th place after the bike, unfortunately collapsed less than 100m from the finishing line. The good news was that although being disappointed not to finish, Hannah was later fine, having received medical attention for dehydration.
The Mens event saw Andrew Nash and Joseph Ricciardi out with the early leaders. Strong bike legs from Sam Brand, Antony Bell-Scott & Juan Kinley kept them all in contention. Unfortunately Andrew suffered a clash with a fellow competitor whilst exiting T1 which left him with a foot injury. Nonetheless Andrew was 1st home from the Manx squad, finishing in 4th place overall in 2:05:51, Abs was next coming in 13th overall in a time of 2:08:50, with Sam Brand following in 17th overall in 2:09:52, then team manager Juan in 22nd place overall in 2:11:01and Joseph finishing in 23rd overall in 2:11:47
