Triathlon Coaching

The Manx Tri Club’s British Triathlon qualified coaches run numerous coaching sessions
during the course of the year:

Pool Swimming: The club runs five-week structured swim courses at the NSC swimming
pool from October through to March. These are technique-based sessions intended to
improve speed through the water for all standards of swimmer.

Open-Water Swimming: Coaching sessions are run throughout the late spring and summer months either in the Mooragh Lake or at sea, depending on weather conditions and sea temperature. These are typically one-off sessions (rather than a series of linked sessions).
They are designed for all standards of swimmers across all distances with the emphasis on
confidence in the water, race preparation and race craft.

Bike and Run: Depending on demand and the time of the year, the coaches will host road
bike and track sessions for tri club members either on the open roads (bike) or the NSC
track or perimeter roadway. The road sessions are typically used to build confidence and
bike handling skills; the run sessions are technique and interval sessions to help with pacing
and speed, largely for shorter course triathletes (sprint and standard).

Transition coaching courses take place prior to the Manx Tri Club’s principal events during
the year with a particular focus on the May Sprint Triathlon and the September open-water
standard and sprint event. The courses cover all aspects of transition as well as athlete, bike
and race preparation.

With the exception of the group swim sessions at the NSC (which have to be pre-booked),
all of the club’s coaching events are free to members and will be announced at least two
weeks prior to the coaching date. The Club’s coaches are also available to take questions
and provide advice for members throughout the year.

SUPPORT FOR SPORT

Manx Tri Club are very grateful for the continued support of Isle of Man Sport’s “Support For Sport” initiative, particularly for the youth programmes in place

‘In partnership with the Island’s recognised Governing Bodies of Sport, Isle of Man Sport aim to achieve the following objectives:

  • Increase participation in sport across all levels from grass roots to elite;
  • Improve and develop coaching, volunteering and officiating to enhance performance across all levels; and
  • Improve governance of governing bodies of sport and member clubs.

The Sports Liaison Committee assist and develop recognised sports on the Isle of Man through the Support for Sport framework, aligned with these Priorities and Objectives. For those recognised Governing Bodies of Sport that are well organised and have a clear vision of the future of their sport, the Support for Sport framework will provide:

  • education and practical support through workshops and seminars;
  • funding to help with priorities and objectives which align with those of Isle of Man Sport;
  • increased liaison to ascertain which initiatives are most successful and could be used as examples of best practice to help develop other sports
